More Printmaking
Created for the Print A Bird On It! exchange portfolio organized by Daniella Napolitano for the 2025 SGCI printmaking conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico is part of the largest biodiversity area in the Caribbean islands and provides important overwintering habitat for many migratory birds. Puerto Rico has over 300 bird species, including 19 that are endemic to the island. My print was inspired by the Puerto Rican Lizard Cuckoo which is non-migratory and found throughout the main island. It sits motionless for long periods high in tress and is more often heard than seen. It is also called pájaro de lluvia or pájaro de agua ("rain bird") in the belief that its call forecasts rain.
